Travis Childers is an artist, curator, and has over twenty years of museum work experience working as a preparator in several of Washington, DC’s premier art collections such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum; Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens; The Museum of the Daughters of the American Revolution; as well as at the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Vero Beach, Florida. Childers is the founder and curator of Ruby Projects, an independent contemporary art gallery in Fairfax, Virginia that focuses on thoughtfully presenting works of local artists. Throughout his art career Childers has shown both nationally and internationally in such spaces as the Ethan Cohen Gallery in New York, NY; Benrimon Gallery in New York, NY; the Virginia Museum for Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, VA, and is featured in many private collections, including some curated by the prestigious Sotheby’s International Artlink Young Artists Program. Childers has won many grants and awards, notably a fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Fairfax County Artist Grant, and a Liquitex Excellence in Art grant. In 2013, Childers was selected as a finalist for the Trawick Prize, a Contemporary Art Award in Bethesda, Maryland; was a Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize Semi-finalist in 2009 and 2010; and received a Strauss Fellowship from ArtsFairfax in 2008. Childers received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and a Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.

Tephra ICA at Signature, located at the Signature apartment building in Reston, VA, is an innovative satellite gallery space that presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions featuring work by local and regional artists as selected by Tephra ICA curatorial staff. ​Provided in partnership with Boston Properties and Bozzuto. 

Visitors are welcome Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–5pm. Face masks are required to enter. Reservations are not required.
